A History Lesson On Coin Necklaces

Beginning in 269 B.C., Roman coins of various sizes were crafted in bronze, gold and silver. These coins were minted in over 40 different cities – the name of the Rome mint being Juno Monet, which is where we get the term ‘money’ from. Striking it rich or what.

While men would often wear coin rings, bearing the face of the ruling emperor to draw attention and show their status, Roman women preferred to wear necklaces, earrings and bracelets. When in Rome (or just dreaming of Italy) we do as the Romans do.

Love, Lucy

Our longest-standing jewellery collaboration, we’ve been designing with Lucy Williams for over seven years, producing four sell-out collections. The partnership sees the coming together of Lucy’s much sought-after style, and our iconic design. After the incredible success of the original collection – featuring the now iconic Large Horn and Mini Fang necklaces – who else could help us give amulet status symbols the 21st century touch with a fresh interpretation?

Three Ways To Wear

  1. Go Solo-/-Coin necklaces are a timeless staple in your jewellery wardrobe, that shine brightly enough on their own. Nail your minimalist styling with this single focal point.
  2. Group Hang-/-Want to maximise the look? Team with a chunky, more modern choker – such as our Axiom Necklace – to bring some balance to your layering and highlight its ancient iconography even further.
  3. Make It A Set-/-So good we made it part of our layering sets. Our favourite? Shop the Roman Arc alongside a flat curb chain and malachite style that completes the trio (but we all know the coin is still the leader of the pack).
