Initial Inspiration

Our design team were heavily inspired by organic forms and shapes (see: above). In Molten Gemstone, molten metals are embedded with hand-cut gemstones, creating maximum-impact organic-inspired designs with lasting appeal.

Sketching Away

Ever wanted to look inside a jewellery designer's mind? Well, now you can. These inner workings were the beginning of our Molten Gemstone collection.

From Wax to Cast

After the sketches, CADs (Computer-Aided Designs) are created — like above for our Molten Gemstone Doughnut Triple Charm Drop Earrings and Molten Gemstone Floating Charm Studs. Getting that textured and organic look was a huge challenge for us, but Eve, our Head of Design, experimented tirelessly with our factories to ensure we could achieve it.

Each piece is hand-finished by a master model maker to give it the perfect undulating textured look.

We crafted with over 20,000 gemstones in this collection. From lapis, and turquoise, to malachite — each stone is hand-picked for its natural and impactful hues.

Stone Colourways and Setting

Yep, this is not a drill, Molten Gemstone features over 20,000 individual gems. From lapis, and turquoise, to malachite — each stone is hand-picked for its natural and impactful hues.

The semi-precious staples are then hand-cut by highly skilled lapidaries, each bespoke to Missoma. They are then hand-finished to fit perfectly within their settings. If we had to award a prize for the most gem-worthy piece, our Molten Gemstone Chubby Hoops would 100% come out on top with a total of 18 individual collets in the pair of earrings. Whew, just think of all the spiritual meanings in that gemstone cocktail.

After casting, filing, and pre-polishing, the pieces go into the pre-cutting stage where the stones and settings are hand-checked with stone control cards. After this, the jewellery is polished and plated, before arriving at Missoma HQ. We've got to hand it to our factories and the artisans creating our styles, their hand-making skills are unrivalled.
