Gold vermeil

18ct Gold Vermeil

Pronounced ‘ver-may’, the gold-plating technique we're known for (as the pioneers of demi-fine) starts out as a sterling silver base which is electroplated with a thick 2.5 microns of solid gold.

sterling silver

Sterling Silver

An alloy made of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper with rhodium plating for extra durability and a high-shine finish. Our sterling silver pieces are stamped with '925' to certify their authenticity.

18ct gold plated

18ct Gold Plated

Our 18ct gold-plated jewellery is crafted using two methods: electroplated onto brass with a thick two-micron layer of 18ct gold (the same process as vermeil), or finished with 18ct gold using ultra-durable PVD plating on 316L stainless steel for everyday, water-resistant wear.

silver plated

Silver Plated

Plated with a thick layer of silver on brass and finished with an anti-tarnish coating, designed to maintain its shine and longevity with everyday wear and care.

Platinum Plated

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of metals are used in Missoma jewellery?

We craft by hand with a variety of high-quality metals, including 18ct gold vermeil, 18ct gold plating, sterling silver, and 14ct solid gold.

Is Missoma's gold and silver recycled?

Yes, we use 100% certified recycled gold and silver in our jewellery pieces, ensuring sustainability without compromising on quality.

What is 18ct gold vermeil?

18ct gold vermeil is a thick layer of 18ct gold over sterling silver, offering a luxurious look and long-lasting wear.

How do you pronounce 'vermeil'?

It's pronounced 'ver-may'.

What is the difference between 18ct gold vermeil and 18ct gold plating?

All our gold vermeil jewellery in the UK is stamped with the '925' mark to indicate the sterling silver purity. The plating process is different as well — gold vermeil is plated with a process known as ‘electrolysis’, making the jewellery very durable. All our pieces are tested by the Assay Office (which tests the purity of precious metals), as required by law.

Gold-plated jewellery, on the other hand, involves a base metal – brass in our case – which is plated with a layer of gold. It's more affordable but less durable compared to gold vermeil.

How durable is sterling silver?

Sterling silver is extremely durable but can tarnish over time without proper care. Regular cleaning with a soft cloth will help maintain its shine.

How should I care for my Missoma metal jewellery?

To keep your metal jewellery looking its best, clean it with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid exposing it to water, perfumes, and chemicals to prevent tarnishing or damage.

How should I store my Missoma jewellery?

Store your jewellery in a soft pouch or lined box, away from direct sunlight and other metals to prevent scratches or tarnishing.

Can I wear my Missoma metal jewellery every day?

Our gold, silver and solid gold pieces are made for everyone. We do recommend removing them during activities that expose them to water or chemicals to ensure longevity.

Does Missoma gold and silver jewellery come with a warranty?

Yes, all of our jewellery comes with a two-year warranty.
