Our Guide to Jewellery Gift Giving

Jenny Rae

Can’t decide on what to gift that special someone this year? We’ve all been there, whether it’s the family member that apparently doesn’t want anything or the friend that seems to have everything. We’re here to help you win the award for best gift-giver ever.

Gift-giving is not a one-size-fits-all situation – unless they all want the same chain – instead it’s about finding the pieces that suit the way they express themselves. Jewellery as unique as they are. Luckily, we’ve done the hard work for you. Whether you’re celebrating a milestone birthday, marking a relationship, or something thoughtful “just because”, this is the ultimate guide to gifting jewellery.

Jewellery for Those Milestone Birthdays

Some birthdays call for something a little more meaningful – forever pieces they’ll never want to take off (and don’t have to).

The 21st: Starter Pack of Classics

Turning 21 is about building foundations. Think everyday essentials that will move with your loved one through every phase of life. Our gold and silver collections are perfect for this with delicate hoops, pared-back chain necklaces, or a timeless pendant necklace that can be layered over time. Look to personalised pieces with free engraving for that extra special touch.

A tip from us: The best starter pieces are the foundational ones that work with everything.

The 30th: Investment Pieces

By the age of 30, jewellery becomes more of an expression of you – aka where personal style really comes into its own. If they’re more of a statement maker go for chunky gold chains, sculptural rings, or standout earrings. If they love a more refined style, go for a pair of 14ct solid gold earrings they’ll love or meaningful gemstones – like birthstone pieces with extra added colour and symbolism. It’s also a great moment to introduce contrast – mixing metals, textures, and proportions to curate their stack that feels like them.

The 40th & 50th: Forever Pieces

Jewellery becomes less about trends and more about designs that’ll never go out of style. Invest in tennis bracelets, eternity rings, or a meaningful necklace like our Ridge Heart best seller – pieces they’ll never grow tired of. Layer them with simpler pieces for balance, or let them shine on their own.

A Note on Birthstones

Birthstone jewellery adds another layer of meaning to any gift. Each stone carries its own symbolism – from protection and strength to love and clarity – making it feel super personal for the wearer. They’re best sellers for a reason.

For the Mother Figures: Mother’s Day & Beyond

Because she deserves her weight in gold. Forever jewellery gifts for her to keep (and you to steal).

Personalisation That Means Even More

Initial necklaces, engraved pendants, and personalised charms are timeless for a reason.

Lucky Charms

Charm jewellery is perfect for creating something that evolves. Start with a base chain or bracelet, then add charms over time – each one representing a memory, a milestone, or a person.

Elevated Classics

For something more refined, look to pearls made modern. Your pearl-fect match for weddings, events, or elevating everyday dressing.

For Your Other Half: Valentine’s & Anniversaries

Because nothing says ‘I love you’ like jewellery, no matter how long you’ve been together.

Valentine’s Day

Forget cards and chocolate, romance them with jewellery that leans into texture, shape, and meaning. Heart motifs feel modern and understated, while layered necklaces, or mixed metal styles symbolise connection in a more elevated way.

Anniversaries by Year

If you’re marking a milestone, we’ve got you covered:

  • Year 1 (Gold): Gold stacking rings or chain necklaces
  • Year 5 (Sapphire): Blue sapphire studs or a Tennis Bracelet with sapphire blue nano crystals
  • Year 10 (Diamond): You deserve diamonds, you know you do. Treat them with an eternity ring with lab grown or natural detailing.
  • Year 25 (Silver): A sculptural sterling silver cuff or bold chain

The key is choosing something they’ll actually wear.

The Wedding Edit

Jewellery pieces as iconic as your day. Celebrate your nuptials with styles that say ‘marriage material’.

Something Blue

Blue sapphire accents whether in a stacking ring or timeless stud. Tradition never looked so chic.

Bridesmaid Gifts

Treat your bridesmaids and save 20% when you buy four or more pieces. Also, style tip: matching doesn’t have to mean identical. Choose a unifying piece – like a chain bracelet or simple studs – then personalise each one with an initial or charm.

It keeps things cohesive, but still individual.

The Groom

For him, it’s about understated detail: signet rings or a simple chain add polish without feeling overdone. Engravable pieces make it even more meaningful.

Professional & Academic Milestones

Hello genius, we see you. Get them a gift that gives top-of-the-class energy.

Graduation

Everyday jewellery that feels polished enough for interviews or graduation day.

New Job or Promotion

Curate their layers or stack with something that feels like them.

Leaving or Thank You Gifts

For these transitional moments, choose something symbolic. Engraved messages, or meaningful charms represent movement, growth, and what’s next.

Jewellery for Him: Father’s Day & Beyond

Jewellery for him is all about subtlety and function—with just enough edge.

Elevated Basics

Chunky chains, simple rings, or classic styles are easy starting points. Clean, wearable, and designed to be lived in.

Symbolic Pieces

The Missoma Gifting Tree

Think of a jewellery collection as something that grows over time.

The Foundation (The Trunk):
Start with a core piece like a chain necklace, a pair of hoops, or a signature ring.

The Milestones (The Branches):

Add charms, pendants, or stacking rings to mark key moments.

The Trends (The Leaves):

Layer in seasonal pieces like statement earrings, beaded necklace mixed metals, and new textures to keep it feeling fresh.

Metal Guide: Choosing the Right One

Here’s a breakdown of our metals to help you pick the right jewellery for their gift.

14ct Solid Yellow Gold

Forever pieces that last a lifetime, crafted from solid gold that's chain-of-custody certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council.

14ct Solid White Gold

For those who love the look of silver. Made by hand from 100% certified recycled solid gold.

18ct Gold Vermeil

Pronounced ‘ver-may’, the gold-plating technique we're known for (as the pioneers of demi-fine) starts out as a sterling silver base which is electroplated with a thick 2.5 microns of solid gold.

Sterling Silver

An alloy made of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper with rhodium plating for extra durability and a high-shine finish. Our sterling silver pieces are stamped with '925' to certify their authenticity.

18ct Gold Plated

Our 18ct gold-plated jewellery is crafted using two methods: electroplated onto brass with a thick two-micron layer of 18ct gold (the same process as vermeil), or finished with 18ct gold using ultra-durable PVD plating on 316L stainless steel for everyday, water-resistant wear.

Silver Plated

Plated with a thick layer of silver on brass and finished with an anti-tarnish coating, designed to maintain its shine and longevity with everyday wear and care.

Platinum Plated

Crafted from 316L stainless steel and finished with an ultra-durable layer of platinum using PVD plating. Designed for everyday wear and lasting water resistance.

Mixed Metals

Can't decide between gold and silver? Now you don't have to with 100% recycled gold and silver.

Size Does Matter

When gifting rings, necklaces or hoops, sizing matters. Find our size guides here.

Discover our ring sizing tips

TIP 01: Falling somewhere in between two sizes? Go larger for maximum comfort.

TIP 02: Remember in colder weather your fingers can shrink down by half a size. Equally your fingers can swell in hotter weather.

TIP 03: Measure your ring size at the end of the day for the most accurate reading.

TIP 04: Wider ring bands can feel tighter than your normal ring size. Because of this, we'd suggest sizing up.

Gifts By Price

  • Gifts Under £150: Personalised necklaces, stacking bracelets, or trending hoops.
  • Gifts Over £150: From layering sets to 14ct solid gold pieces that’ll last a lifetime.

How to Care for Your Jewellery

  • Ensure your pieces stay tarnish-free by keeping them away from chemicals present in perfume and deodorant.
  • Also steer clear of hairspray and nail polish remover around your pieces.
  • Going on holiday? Take off your pieces before going for a dip. Also avoid sun tan lotion and body oils when wearing your jewelry.
  • Be gentle when it comes to cleaning. Use the polishing cloth that came with your pieces, or for a deeper clean, use mild dish soap with warm water.

Taking care of jewellery means it stays part of your everyday for even longer.
